Great News from Rockport

by Dianne

Ten weeks and five days ago Dick Carlson was admitted to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus with fluid on his right lung and an abscess in his liver area.  Since that first day, February 9th, he has been  from Corpus to the Methodist Hospital in Houston to Gulf Pointe Plaza in Rockport, back to Corpus then back to Gulf Pointe again.  He’s had great days with great progress and then days that were not so good.  He’s a tough guy with a strong will and that sure made all the difference in his long road to recovery.

We are so thankful and happy that as of today, 4/23/13, he is now home again in Rockport 35 with Lucille.  They are anxious to return to Michigan but plan to stay for a while longer in Rockport since the weather in Michigan is not quite as pleasant as it is back in Texas.

Thanks to all who called and sent cards.  Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

Gene Martin Passed Away

by Keith

Our neighbors on Third Street, at the corner with Main Street, were Gene and Vivian Martin. They were there two winters, 2009 and 2010. Because they were nearby neighbors and I found Gene a very congenial fellow with very interesting experiences, I have pictures of him in three settings.

The picture above was taken at the Valentine's Day Party in 2010. It pictures Gene as the Southern Gentleman that he was, along with the love of his life. What a great party that was! It's special for me because I have pictures of each couple who attended. The pictutres are a good memory aid to help me remember all the wonderful people who became our friends at Rockport 35 RV Park.

Here's Gene in a typical setting: out at the picnic table, having his morning coffee! He was always good for a friendly visit and willing to share some of his experiences. It's not everyday that you get to chat with a former professional wrestler!

Most are Home

by Keith

Most Winter Texans have now arrived at their summer nesting spots, including Pat and I. We arrived a week ago and devoted the entire week to completing the income tax forms and hitting the "Submit" button last evening.

We've heard from several friends from the park earlier, and some now on facebook, that they have arrived home safely. Sherrie and Larry being the latest in that category.

I'm not sure where their lake home is in MN, but I know our Wee Ones are in Silver Bay (that's even north of Duluth) this weekend and are enjoying a blizzard! Larry might have left TX too early!

On the way home, we came through the cities of Alice, Three Rivers, and George West. All were busy with oil field related businesses. The area is clearly enjoying an oil boom!

We're back home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We hope anyone going through or near will give us a call. We'd love to see friends from Rockport 35 RV Park!

We have a state park and a couple of county parks with RV facilities within ten miles of our house, if you're travelling with your RV.
