Ron & Connie Hitting the "Hot Spots" in Our Country

Ron & Connie spent the weekend in Marshalltown, IA, visiting relatives in and around Gladbrook. Today, they traveled to Cedar Rapids. Talk about a couple of jet-setters!

In Marshalltown, they saw Helen as they were at the same campground. Pat and I visited them tonight, to lay plans for tomorrow. And get caught up on visiting, of course!

Tomorrow, they'll come to our house so Connie and I can review progress on her website. Soon, hopefully, it will be available to the public so people can order her beautiful greeting cards over the Internet.

Ron, Connie, and Pat in Marion, Iowa, USA

See, I told you they were hitting the hot spots.

A Taste of Rockport

by Keith

For dinner tonight, we enjoyed a taste of Rockport! We had the last of the fish given us in Rockport and it was GOOD!

Several of the fishermen gave us fish last winter. We didn't catalog the gifts well, so don't know from whose hook tonight's delight came. Therefore, we will just say a collective Thank You! to all the fishermen at Rockport 35 RV Park!

$241,000,000 Won!

by Keith

You might have heard that the Iowa Lottery had a winning ticket the other night, promoted as being a $241-million* win!

And that ticket was sold at "our" Hy-Vee store (Iowa's equivalent of H.E.B.), less than a mile from our house.

You are probably wondering if Pat and I were the lucky winners/

We weren't.

The true winner(s) haven't come forward yet, but it is rumored that it was a group of a couple dozen folks who work at Quaker Oats. We'll probably know in a few days.

A few weeks ago, a couple in IL won a sizable lottery. They didn't claim the cash until they had all their ducks in a row. They secretly met with their attorney and investment counselor before they turned in their ticket. Every one was eagerly waiting to see who it was but they just kept "doing their thing" normally until all the arrangements were made. Then and only then did they reveal their identity.

Sounds like a smart couple to me. The Quaker Oats folks might do likewise.

* This irks me. It's only $241M if the winner takes it over 20 years! If they take it now, it is millions less.
It's as if one offered a car for a prize and when the winner went to collect his car he was given only the wheels and told to come back once a year for 20 years and he'd be given more parts to it each time. "In 20 years, you'll have the car that you won!"
If you or I, a bank, or a business operated that way they'd go to jail. Why should the lotteries be any different?

Update - Dick Carlson

by Dianne

I know it’s been awhile since the last posting, but in this case, no news IS good news.  Dick finished his antibiotic regime for the MRSA virus and follow up blood work shows that it is gone and his hemoglobin continues to increase.

Today, he starts taking Nexavar for his liver cancer. It is chemo, in pill form, and has had a much better success rate for liver cancer than regular chemo therapy.  Of course, it comes with a list of “not so nice” side effects, as do most serious medications.  He will start with 3 pills a day and, depending on how well it is tolerated, the dosage will be increased or decreased. Also, they will have continued phone support from health care specialists to help manage side effects as well as providing encouragement and support and answering questions as they arise.

Dick and Lucille would like to thank everyone for the cards and phone calls that keep them connected to the Rockport 35 Park family. Speaking of the park family -- we hope all is well with everyone in your home towns and as you travel out and about our great country.  Enjoy, have fun, be safe.

Don’t forget, the Blog is here to help us stay current with what’s happening with YOU and to share stories and information, so let us know how and what you are up to and we’ll post it on the Blog.

Report from Allison

by Allison, via Keith
I received this update from Allison today. kaw

Tony & I have been staying in the motorhome here in Houston, near MD Anderson--with our fur-kids..  As you probably know, i am planning to have an auto transplant of stem cells.

That means, I will be donating my own immature cells--and in fact did that last Thursday. I am what they call a "Donor" in that it only took one day to obtain three times the cells needed for the transplant!

Tomorrow, I will begin the necessary chemotherapy to prepare for auto transplant.  The actual transplant will occur next Wednesday, if all goes well.  After about 30-days, I should return with Tony to the park.

We thank you all for your on-going prayers ..........

Rockport 35 RV Park Website

Looking for the website of Rockport 35 RV Park?

This isn't it—but it is close.

The official site, normally found at 35rv.com, is not currently operating. You can contact the park at (361) 729-2307.

The park's address is 4851 N Highway 35, Rockport, TX 78382

This website is an unofficial "daily newspaper" created by a winter resident of the park for park guests, past, present, and future.

Read through it. You might see why we enjoy the guests there so much!

June 7 Update:

The park website at 35rv.com is now available. All problems have been solved and there should be no further outages.
