Canadian Challenge

By Mike Lukens via Dianne

Mike Lukens lives on North 5th Street - west side; he has a boat, likes to fish, and often invites residents from the park to fish with him. I believe most people in the park know Mike. Sorry, I don't have his picture.

On a recent international excursion Mike had the pleasure of hosting the Manitoba vs. Ontario fishing challenge with Marvin Orloff representing Manitoba and Bob Deforge representing Ontario.

As Mike reported, this turned out to be the "biggest fish" challenge between Marvin and Bob. As you can see, Bob won.  Marvin had a hard time giving up that buck, by the way.  As shown in the photo it was not even Canadian currency. Marvin!

Ever Hear of a Ball PIt?

by Keith

No?  Neither have I. Perhaps Cedar Rapids is just too small for such big-city refinements.

It sounds silly, but I watched the video and was amazed at the conversations which took place. You might be, too.

How about a ball pit on a lot adjacent to Main Street???

Here it is:  http://www.wimp.com/ballpit/

Interesting Traffic at Port A

by Keith

According to a facebook post by Paula, there will be some interesting boat traffic at Port Aransas today!

There's the return of a huge drilling rig! I think it just might be the huge one that was taken out through Port A a few years ago. We missed it then and will miss today's passage. But those of you at the park can catch it!

Here's the pertinent info from her post:
Palmeirim said the latest forecast is for the tug to arrive about 1 p.m., and the hull should enter the jetties by about 2 p.m. and arrive at Kiewitt about 4 p.m. where it should be safely moored by 7 p.m.
Enjoy!

And report, with pictures!!

St. David's Day

by Keith

Today is St. David's Day. He is the patron saint of Wales, land of my forefathers.

St. David's Day, 2012
Even though I'm not at the park, it's still St. David's Day!  I'll fly the flag of Wales via a picture.

My great grandparents all came from the northern part of Wales, the Snowdon area. It's very mountainous and beautiful.

The Welsh love male choruses! Men get together and form choirs of hundreds, even thousands, to sing.

There are many videos on YouTube of men singing the national anthem, especially at rugby games. I've spent many minutes today searching for "the best" to post here.

But I didn't find one. What I found is a relatively small choir singing "You Raise Me Up." Remembering that there are many of our friends at Rockport 35 RV Park who are undergoing serious issues themselves or in their families, I'm posting that in the hope that it will ease their pain if only for a little while.

Especially, I'm thinking of Bob, Gayle, Dick, Allison and Tony, and Tom and his mother. There are no doubt others so even if you are not named, I hope this song will give you a bit of a lift.

Happy St. David's Day, everyone!
