A Week at Rockport 35 RV Park

There was a lot going on at Rockport 35 RV Park last week. It didn't get "reported on," if that's what you can call appearing in this blog, until now.

Please remember that many regularly scheduled and ongoing activities are not covered here, including:
  • Bible study for both men and women
  • Exercise sessions
  • Swimming
  • World solutions (with coffee)
  • Mahjong
  • Wood carving
  • Karoke
  • Line dancing classes
  • Continuous jigsaw puzzle solving
  • Cards
  • Pool
Here goes, latest first:

Saturday's Cards with Kathy

Kathy held a the last big card-making workshop of the season Saturday afternoon.

There, one could design and construct their own unique greeting card! (I suppose "create" would be more politically correct, wouldn't it!)

A number of ladies took advantage of this opportunity, as you can see in these pictures.

And More Cards

This was the fifth week of Saturday Poker, Texas Hold 'Em style, at Rockport 35 RV Park. And it produced the fifth different winner!

Ron persevered over Ruth, then held off Sonja for the win after a long and hard battle. Congratulations, Ron!

Previous winners were David, Sonia, Walter, and Bob.

Special thanks go to Gene for making Poker at the Park possible. Gene supplied two top-notch table tops, the chips, the organization, and lots and lots of help. THANK YOU, Gene!

Gene and Caroline have now moved on to San Marcos, so the "official" poker games are over. There could always be an impromptu game, though!

Serving With A Smile

Saturdays start off with a delicious breakfast, cooked and served with a smile by a crew of volunteers. (This picture was not taken last week, but is certainly representative of the kitchen crew.)

The club house is a great place to meet your friends, meet new friends, get caught up on what's happening, plan what's about to happen—and have a great meal!

If you've enjoyed the breakfasts, which will continue through March 22, be sure to tell the guys Thank You!

Bingo!

Friday night is bingo night at the park, with a good number of residents joining in.

Sorry, I didn't show up to take pictures but the games are very real none-the-less.

Bridge

Friday afternoon a group gets together for a game of bridge. They'd like to expand the numbers, so if you're at all interested, show up on the next Friday!

Friendship Dinner

Thursday always means there'll be plenty of good eats and good fellowship with your friends and neighbors at the Friendship Dinner. It's a weekly event here at Rockport 35 RV Park.

Computer Class

Thursday morning, David led a class on search engines. He explained what they were, how they worked, and how to use them to efficiently find what you want on the Internet.

This was the sixth, and last for the season, Thursday morning computer class. Previous classes covered Beginning Beginners Computing (two lessons, each presented two times) and photo handling using Picasa.

David and Keith contributed their time and knowledge in the hope that their friends would find their computer lives easier.

Crafts

Thursday morning and also Tuesday morning is "craft day" at the park. There are always creative ladies working on something or other!

90th Birthday Party

Photo of Richard and Mary at his 90th birthday party.Because Richard will be back in Missouri on the anniversary of his birth 90 years ago, the good folks on Fifth Street decided that such an event should not go unnoticed so they had a party for him on Wednesday. And a great party it was!

Photo of birthday party guests.Lots of visiting and, of course, a birthday cake. there were two reasons it had no candles:
  • They couldn't find that many candles, and

  • There is a burning ban in effect.
But we did have ice cream!

Richard is looking forward to an even bigger party on his 100th, and so are we!

Photo of Lucille on bike.Especially gratifying was to see Lucille pedal in to the party on her three-wheeler. She regularly rides it these days, and walks unaided. It was just about exactly one year ago now that she fell from the stoop and fractured not one but both legs!

Keep pedalin', Lucille!

Computer Help Session
Each Tuesday at Two, Keith moderates a session in which he and others attempt to solve problems or answer questions having to do with computers, websites, etc.

Attendance has varied from about a dozen to just a few. Many have found help at these sessions.

Tuesday's Craft Class

This Tuesday, the "lesson" of the day was making a bracelet using beads. Pat led this activity.

Photo of beaders making bracelets.
Several pretty bracelets were produced in this session, and more in the days ahead.

But not everyone does the same thing. Here Nancy is working on some needlework.

Mexican Dinner

Monday night we donned our sombreros and sarapes and headed for the clubhouse for a another great meal, this time one with a Mexican flavor. A great time was had by all. The pictures can tell the story.

I've made the pictures into a movie and posted it on YouTube. The quality of the photos isn't as good as the slide show for the King Ranch trip. Perhaps I'll do it over when I get bored.

The organizers did a great job; Thank You!

Sunday Night Ice Cream

Photo of Sunday night ice cream!
Each Sunday evening, ice cream is served, usually by Marv and Jeanie, to a good-sized crowd of ice cream lovers. You can't beat two scoops for a buck, and all the visiting you care to participate in!

The pictures were not taken not last week but on February 1. But it doesn't really matter, because the ice cream was just as good and most of the people are still here to enjoy ice cream.

Worship Service

Our clubhouse doubles as the Come-As-You-Are Worship Center. (Or is it the other way around??)

Each Sunday, beginning at 8:30, Allison and Tony lead a non-denominational Bible-based worship service.

Many who attend are thrilled that this opportunity to worship so conveniently exists and that it is scripture based.

And some of us just love the "songfest" which opens the service. Where else can you hear and sing a half-hour's worth of those old hymns you heard when you were a kid?

This picture was taken February 1, the day that Step of Faith presented the message with their great blue-grass gospel songs.

Conclusion

There you have it, folks—just one week in the life of the great people at Rockport 35 RV Park.
